What GOTS Certification Covers

To be GOTS certified, a product must meet comprehensive requirements at every stage of production, including:

Organic fibres sourcing (minimum 70%–95% certified organic natural fibres)

Environmentally responsible processing (no toxic heavy metals, azo dyes, GMOs, or harmful chemicals)

Ethical labour practices (no child labour, forced labour, or unsafe working conditions)

Independent third-party inspections at all production stages (farming, spinning, dyeing, manufacturing)

Key Features of GOTS Accreditation

Environmental Criteria:

No use of toxic pesticides, synthetic fertilisers, or GMOs in fibre cultivation

Ban on harmful chemicals in processing (e.g. formaldehyde, heavy metals, phthalates)

Wastewater treatment required in all wet-processing units

Sustainable practices in energy, water, and waste management

Social Criteria:

GOTS-certified facilities must comply with the International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, including:

GOTS Label Grades

GOTS has two label grades:

GOTS Organic: Minimum 95% certified organic fibres

GOTS Made with Organic Materials: At least 70% certified organic fibres

Each certified product will carry a GOTS label along with the license number, which allows consumers to verify authenticity via the GOTS public database.
